Sun Kissed Cheetah
'Sun Kissed' was inspired by Willow, a gorgeous cheetah who is part of the vital breeding programme at The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, England.
The Big Cat Sanctuary introduced Willow to two beautiful brother cheetahs, hoping nature would take its course. But the brothers were simply not interested. They would far rather bask in the sun than mate, which I found absolutely fascinating. Cheetahs are remarkable in this way, their low libido and poor reproductive performance is one of the lesser known reasons the species is under such threat. And so the name 'Sun Kissed' felt perfect, because for Willow and her two suitor brothers, the sun was the only kiss on offer!

With fewer than 6,500 mature cheetahs remaining in the wild, now occupying just 9% of their historic range, Biology Insights the difficulty of breeding them successfully makes every cub genuinely precious. Combined with habitat loss, illegal trafficking of cubs into the exotic pet trade, and retaliatory killings by farmers, Biology Insights the scale of what conservationists are up against is enormous.
Cheetahs have long held a special place in my heart. Their speed, their fragility, and their gentleness. They don't roar like other big cats; instead they purr, chirp, and even meow, forming deep bonds with their keepers and each other. This quiet grace and emotional depth is what I strive to capture in my work.
A percentage of each sculpture sold goes directly to The Big Cat Sanctuary, in support of both the animals that inspire me and the people working so hard to protect them.
Please visit The Big Cat Sanctuary's website where you will learn more about their conservation and breeding programmes. I strongly urge you to become a member and go and visit this fabulous sanctuary. You can adopt any of these gorgeous big cats!
